Time Running Out For Refunds

Did you file a tax return for 2013? If you didn’t for whatever reason, and you were entitled to a refund, time is running out to claim that refund. You typically have three years to request a refund (by filing the missing return), and that means April 18th, about 6 weeks from now, is the latest you can ask for your money back.

Beware though...The IRS may hold 2013 refunds if taxpayers have not filed tax returns for 2014 and 2015. The U.S. Treasury will apply the refund to any federal or state tax owed. Refunds may also be held  to offset unpaid child support or past due federal debts such as student loans.

You will need records of your income and withholdings for that year, and getting that info can take some time. If you can’t get it from your employer, you can request a transcript from the IRS. You will also need software to process the return. Or, you can call me…I can help.
